Classroom Management

When I implemented my classroom strategy, the learners were reluctant in obeying the classroom rules; I then punished the learners by handing out d-merits as a form of negative reinforcement. After following this plan consistently and doing it multiple times at the beginning of the implementation, the learners started following the rules. By the end of the teaching experience, all of the learners were receiving positive reinforcements such as merits which allowed them to wear civvies on a Friday instead of school uniform. This strategy was a success because it was similar to what the school had been using except my strategy had positive reinforcements to encourage good and acceptable behaviour. The impact of this strategy on the learners was significant because the learners were more productive in the lessons than before the implementation took place. The learner’s behaviour and etiquette had improved drastically for example; they were raising their hands instead of shouting out the answers to the teacher. I would redo the classroom rules to suit my ideal of discipline because these rules were suited for the way the teacher disciplined the learners. This strategy links back to skinner’s theory (Weebly.com, 2019).
For my classroom tool, I made use of a d-merit and merit system to encourage good behaviour and limit bad behaviour. At the beginning of the implementation stage, every learner was receiving at least one d-merit from the teacher, by the second week of teaching experience, some learners were receiving merits for good behaviour and completing the tasks that they were required to do so. Once each learner would receive 20 merits, they would be allowed to wear civvies to school on a Friday. This classroom management tool was a success as the learners were receiving the merits for their good behaviour; they were being encouraged as well. This tool helped encourage learning to happen as the learners would also receive merits if they completed the tasks that they were required to do so. The impact that this tool had on the learners was very good because the learners appeared to be happier to attend my lessons. I would adapt this tool for future classes because it was a success on getting the learners to respect the class rules.

Your classroom tool seemed very effective, it is a very nice idea for a classroom. I am glad that the learners were good and seemed happier because of this system you put into place.
